test valley house

A pared back and refined kitchen extension connects mid 18th Century, Grade II* listed house to its garden.

The previous location of the kitchen meant there was little visual and no physical connection with the main garden; not ideal for a family with young children. The new, linear kitchen runs perpendicular to the rear elevation along the line of an existing garden wall, allowing this to be expressed internally. The new kitchen is supported with an internal reorganisation of the existing kitchen, playroom and library to support the family’s way of living.

The kitchen extension was designed to be contemporary in nature whilst remaining respectful to the style and composition of the existing house and gardens with full height glazing, a green and zinc roof and an ash angled ceiling internally. The material palette of green roof, pale brick and ash was carefully chosen to complement the flint and brick of the existing house and garden wall.
