Bay house - Winchester

A large Victorian semi-detached house close to the centre of Winchester is transformed into a calm, classic, garden-focussed family home.

This ongoing, multi-phase project has seen the total refurbishment or the existing house - retaining and focussing on the beautiful Victorian detailing, a rear extension to form a large, bright family kitchen. The conversion of the existing coach house in the rear garden now forms a cinema and media room. The extension echoes the materiality and form of the existing house, whilst playful details elevate it and ensure it remains resolutely modern. The vaulted ceiling, leading the eye to a copper covered roof lantern, creates a felling of lofty airiness, whilst large, glazed doors to the rear and a frameless glass screen to the side ensure the house and garden are intrinsically linked. This feeling of connection with the garden is further explored by the projecting box bay window; a spot to curl up in and consider the garden through the frameless corner glazing.
